Compound

A compound is a combination of one or more polymers or additives to achieve mechanical, thermal, etc. properties that are ready for final shaping (plastic injection, extrusion, etc.). Compounds are usually marketed in granular form. Compound-producing units are called compounders. The main equipment for the production of a compound is an extruder and a granulation system. For example, to produce a car bumper, we need to combine polypropylene with a rubber material such as EPDM to increase the impact properties at ambient temperature and negative temperatures. The production of a compound is done by compounding companies based on the customer’s order and his level of expectations. To design a new part according to the conditions of use of that part such as mechanical strength, resistance to acids and chemical solvents, wear resistance, ozone resistance, longevity, Creep and … And of course, according to the plastic injection conditions, compounding units produce engineering compounds according to customer needs. In fact, a polymer product that is designed based on an engineering thinking is called an engineering compound. Masterbatch

The concentrated mixture masterbatch contains three polymeric base components, additive chemicals and an active adapting agent as a diffuser. Masterbatch additives are large amounts of paint powder (pigment), mineral fillers or chemicals that are added to the polymer for three different purposes including, color production, improving properties or reducing the cost of the finished price. The polymer base of masterbatch should usually be similar to the original injectable plastic and is supplied in the form of granules and capsules (prim).
